Ruby 1.9.0 has been released, with a number of changes to the language itself: blocks can now have local variables declared within them; a new syntax for lambdas and printf style formatted strings, among other things.
Other interesting changes are: hashes now preserve order, and String is no longer enumerable. A full list of changes in Ruby 1.9 is here.
